Organosilicon polymers are a class of polymers that contain silicon–carbon (Si–C) bonds and typically a siloxane backbone (Si–O–Si) with organic side groups attached. They are commonly known as silicones and include materials such as oils, elastomers, resins, and gels.

These polymers combine inorganic silicon chemistry with organic functional groups, giving them unique thermal, chemical, and mechanical properties.

Chemical structure

A typical organosilicon polymer has:

• Backbone: repeating –Si–O–Si– (siloxane)

• Side groups: organic groups such as methyl (–CH₃), phenyl, vinyl, etc.
